  • If you’ve completed at least one draft of your memoir and want assistance getting it into publishable shape
  • Booked in 60- or 120-minute Zoom sessions
  • A deep-dive into your memoir’s writing and structure
  • Detailed line edits for 10 manuscript pages per hour
  • I’ll review and edit pages prior to each session

Consultation

$50 per half hour

  • If you need advice on developing and/or writing your memoir
  • Booked in 30-minute Zoom sessions

Editorial Assessment

1.5¢–2¢ per word

  • Detailed document about what in your manuscript works and what doesn′t
  • A “big picture” evaluation
  • An analysis of your manuscript′s structure, pacing, plotting, scenes organization, characters, etc.
  • Includes recommendations on how to improve the story
  • No sentence- or word-level comments
  • No changes to manuscript

2.5¢–3.5¢ Per Word

  • Everything in the editorial assessment, plus changes to the manuscript via Word′s track changes
  • Character and plot development
  • Looks at which passages, scenes, and chapters to expand, omit, move, or change

Editing Stage 2

Line Editing

3¢–4¢ per word

Line editing polishes your prose on the sentence level. The intense work focuses on:

  • Improve style, rhythm, word choice, voice, tone, flow, and readability
  • Fix wordiness, awkward phrasing, repetition, weak verbs, clunky sentences, and transitions

Copyediting

2¢–3¢ per word

Copyediting checks for technical correctness:

  • Spelling, grammar, and capitalization
  • Punctuation and hyphenation
  • Syntax and numerical consistency
  • Adherence to style guides, such as the Chicago Manual of Style
  • Legal and ethical issues
